From the BBC:
Well if the snake was in a cage, no wonder it escaped. Sounds like a big python or Boa. Pretty grim for the family. More here. |

Most people (who don't *know*) call them cages because they can't come up with the correct term. I can't quite work out though how it managed to choose the windpipe of one child and start to constrict without that child waking up and alarming the other. It's a very rare thing for a snake to attack like that. Even if they are attacking *prey* they usually bite first to get a grip before they constrict. It stinks a bit of something else to me. |

Apparently a rock python. Still a terrible incident. |

I knew someone who misplaced a snake for 3 weeks. Seems it went to the neighbours through the plumbing. |

I had a couple of viperine snakes a few years ago and somehow one got out. As it was a young snake I thought that was the end of it. It turned up nearly a year later in the garage. It was very thin but recovered well. Snakes are notorious for testing every part of a terrarium tank to find a possible escape route they can exploit. |

Clearly cleverer than we think they are. I have never been interested in a pet snake, not that I am afraid of them, more curious really. I did think of getting tarantula's, though debating getting bunnies and calling them Tupac, Notorious R.A.B and Snoop Rabby Rabbit. ![]() |

So I'm not the only one who thought it sounded a bit suspect then. If the kids were both in the same room I find it hard to believe it could have got them both without raiseing enough of a comotion to either wake the other kid or someone else in the house. My second thought being, if the snake had managed to kill one then wouldn't it have started trying to eat the body? I confess I've never owned snakes but I was very much of the impression that they killed and ate something and it would do them for quite a while rather than trying to get everything in the area. |

A couple of people I know are very into owning and breeding snakes, and they're calling bullsh1t on this story. |

Snakes will only attack if they are threatened. They avoid trouble if they can. That is why they disappear for so long. They also only kill to eat, and one child would be enough for several months. A big python like that could eat a large deer so a child would be easy. I also thought that the death of both children was strange. Though I am not a snake expert but this does smell slightly dodgy. I do hope that they see if there is any human DNA on the snake. |

They also like heat, which may be difficult to find in Canada. |

It might stay indoors and there is plenty of pipes in most homes that could keep a snake warm, also they might go into brumation. Apparently this particular species is bad tempered and aggressive. |

Yes I think that you and DavrosG5 were the first to question it. At least the police did not treat this purely as an accident. |
