On gut instinct, I doubt it too.

Quote:
The pair deny the claims, saying they were forced into it by a gang in Ibiza.

But police said they had several opportunities to alert the authorities.

First Sergeant Alberto Arean Varela, head of the anti-drug and organised crime police unit at the Guardia Civil in Ibiza, said the claims ran counter to his knowledge of trafficking cases.

"Sincerely, with my experience, I don't think these girls were forced to do this," he told the BBC.

"Because, particularly when you go to South America, you need to pass several consuls so the first thing you [would] do is go to the passport consul and say 'Listen, this is what is happening to me', and the police will react - so I don't think they were forced."

Too many holes in their story. They were probably offered enough money to enjoy a long holiday.

I don't believe anyone is that stupid not to at least suspect what the packages are.

They'll be very lucky if all they get is six months, but it doesn't half skew the justice system; you can cop a plea and have your life ruined, or you can have your life ruined immediately AND we'll get around to the real life ruining later...

I suspect that they will do a good few years. The peruvian authorities will want to make an example of them.

I'd make them do the time in Peru too. Letting them serve it here would vastly reduce the deterant effect.

They may not be able to do their time here until they have done half their sentence in Peru. Sending them home might be seen as too cushy and so not be a deterrent to others.

Could be important to the case.

I'd be amazed if that wasn't already being looked into as part of the investigation.

The women, both aged 20, have reportedly told the Peruvian authorities they were working in Ibiza and did not meet before they were both kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to travel to Majorca.

If this was the case it would strengthen their case.

She is either coming to terms with her plight and is pragmatic about the time in jail. Even if you were innocent if you faced 8 years inside if found guilty it can make sense to plea bargain your way to a shorter sentence. If you are guilty then it makes even more sense.

They will still have to do their gaol time here no matter what they might want. At least their families will be able to visit them. I cannot imagine them seeing their family too often if in a Peruvian jail.
