They should pay, though I do think that the sorting office is partially responsible.

It's all about recognition  In all seriousness, there's a long history of targeting public services of every description, and the Beeb itself. Putting 'From BBC NI' on it would mean it looked like a package from one department to the other. Though in this case it wouldn't surprise me if the sender's address partly triggered all this. _________________Plain English advice on everything money, purchase and service related:

The Royal Mail. Should pay. What is suspicious about a camera?  How can someone mistake a camera for a bomb? I've ordered cameras by mail order before and never had any problems getting them delivered.

I'm thinking it might have been more of a 'recording lense' bit of electronics kit than a full-on camera, hence it being in the bottle. They were also possibly looking at a scan that didn't show much detail  _________________Plain English advice on everything money, purchase and service related:

I do think that the private sorting office should pay. They might have some grounds for asking for a contribution from the BBC.
