Quote: A shorter working week often just means employees have to complete the same tasks in less time. And having more time at home - particularly for women - means they spend longer on housework and childcare, the research suggests. A study conducted by Professor Robert Rudolf, at Korea University in Seoul, looked at the impact reducing the working week had on the happiness of married and co-habiting couples with children. South Korea introduced a Five Day Working policy in 2004, which saw Saturdays become an official non-working day and the working week reduced from 44 to 40 hours. The aim of the policy was to enhance living standards, boost the country's weak leisure industry and reduce the negative effects of excessively long working hours, including low productivity and high rates of industrial injury. |
