I wonder how much of that is a result of treating the NHS like a business and/or 'sweep it all under the rug' money.

I suspect that lot is gag orders. Though with redundancies they might make people redundant that they have to reemploy, hence it would be "wasted" in that sense. Though given the scale of the NHS it is not necessarily a large share.

Quote:
The latest figures showed more than 950 health workers received six-figure redundancy packages last year, up from around 620 in 2011-12, he added.
"We've had thousands of six-figure pay-offs for managers at a time when thousands of nurses are getting P45s," he said.
"Now if that doesn't show a government with its priorities wrong, then I don't know what does," said Mr Burnham.
mm would that be those getting the six figure payoffs just getting their contractual redundacy payoff. So we should just tear up contract and employment law because they are managers.
Quote:
The shadow health secretary accepted that while there was a case for reducing the number of managers in the NHS, it would have been "much better and much cheaper to do that through a voluntary route".
Voluntary redundancies are historically more expensive as you normally give a person choosing redundancy a premium to go, or it will cost the same because of their contracts. So woud have only cost the same at best

We were promised by the Govt that there would be no more top-down reorganisation. What they did was not only more reorganisation but they introduced more layers instead of the simple system we had before, so it'd be very easy for one person to be kicked out and one level and then re-employed at another level.
