I am tied in for another year so not really interested now. Though in future it might be worth considering. The problem is not just the phone but all the accessories. I might just keep my phone until it is no longer usable.

Hmm, maybe time to look at replacing the old 3GS, although my other half is still more than happy with it.

Ooh interesting.
I've moved to a rolling monthly contract now I'm out of my 18 month contract. I'm due an upgrade, but I'm waiting to see about the new iPhone.
If it's cheaper with the trade in than going through 3, I'm a happy chap.

The other benefit is that you will not be tied into another long contract.

Next time I might buy the phone outright but contract I got made sense for me with almost nothing upfront with the cash back deal that I got.

My 3GS will be 4 years old in a few days. One reason it is still usable is that I stopped installing the updates after iOS 5 came out.

I have a 3GS about as old and have always done all the updates and have no real issues with it

My iPhone is not as old. Even so I do not even think I have had a problem with it. No resets problems with iOS. I have had problems syncing a particularly large data set for a particular app, but that was solved with some pruning. No problems on the scale of Big D with his phones.

It could be a great deal but then with a new phone only days away it makes me wonder if it would be better waiting?

With each new version of iOS the phone has gotten slower. I also have a 3GS at work for test purposes and that has all the updates and it is much slower. Mine has gone from under 2 seconds to open the Settings app to nearly 10 seconds. The one at work is approaching 20 seconds and it doesn't have any apps installed.

I tried that with my iPhone 5. It opened instantly and it is 50% capacity. I have installed all of the upgrades since I bought it.

Is that the OS updates or a lack of TRIM support slowing down the NAND?

And? The iPhone 5 is several times faster and was designed with the current version of iOS in mind. Of course it responds quickly. ;)

My point was that I have installed at least three updates since purchase. It might all change from now on with the imminent launch of the iPhone 5s and iOS 7.
