I expect they are waiting for Apple to create the market for them. That is IF Apple are developing an iWatch. They may be trying to send Samsung down a blind alley.

Not just Samsung but Sony as well. These companies might have spent a fortune on the basis that Apple were about to enter with a killer device and so they wanted a head start. I am wondering what sort of device could Apple produce? I would rather a decent watch than an electronic device. If it came with proximity warnings to let you know that you were leaving a phone or tablet that might be useful.

Samsung Galaxy Gear may wrap wrists in 6GB and 8GB versions But is 10 hours of battery enough? http://www.techradar.com/news/portable- ... ns-1176531

It probably will not be enough for many. It all depends if the screen sleeps to save energy. Or how often people actually view it and so drain the batteries. I think that until they can get the battery life up to a couple of weeks or have some energy generation like automatic watches it might not be practical for many. It might not be an issue if people can charge up a little during the day either via solar or motion to enable a long enough usable lifespan until people go to bed, when it can be charged overnight.

My current one needs a new battery every 10 years, not sure what I'm supposed to do with one that only lasts 10 hours. I'd be looking for at least 18 hours, with about 2 hours recharge as an absolute minimum.

I agree, 18 hours would be an absolute minimum for most people.

So the screen will be too small to display a useful amount of information and too small for a decent typing experience, the battery life well be a pain and almost everyone will have a phone in their pocket that does all that and more. I see the point of google glass, but not this.

While I can see some benefits of Google Glass who would want a watch without a full QWERTY keyboard? /Steve Ballmer

For once I agree with him. Every new use I think of has a major draw back. MP3 player- stupid to have a cable from your wrist to your ear.

Aren't these seen as companion devices, so you don't need to get the your 24" mega phablet out of your bag every time you get a message, you just look at your watch to decide whether it is worth unpacking your 32" phablet to look at the call. If it integrates a good Bluetooth handsfree set, you can even take calls in a Dick Tracey manner, without ever having to dig in your bag for your 40" phablet. With Siri or Google Now, you good even dictate replies to SMS and simple emails, without having to slap your 55" phablet on your lap. If it had a video camera, you could go even more Dick Tracey and have a video call with your wrist, instead of holding your 72" phablet in front of you, like a complete nonce. Hmm, you'll just look like a half nonce.

A magic phablet that keeps on growing?! As a companion device it should last longer than 10 hours. As you say as a warning of other events like mail arriving, or like a remote for the MP3 player in your pocket does make more sense. Though I can see the video camera aspect being abused.

I don't need a 24" mega tablet any way. I have my phone for messages etc on the move.
