News CLICKY
I'm on that very rig at the moment (the one on the right of the photo) and I've not heard anything about it being linked directly to bromides. We even have some calcium bromide in one of our pits at the moment. The older wells that have had the problems were drilled before they days of cement formulations that could expand and contract with temperature changes were introduced into the industry. The recent and future wells will have no such issues. Of course they have plans to close down several wells. Those plans have been in place before the gas leak last year. I'm helping to abandon one of them as we speak. A new wellhead platform was installed earlier this year (it isn't on that news photo) to allow new wells to be drilled. Yes it costs a lot of money, but nothing compared to the revenue this place generates. By the very nature of it being a HPHT gas field (high pressure, high temperature), production of gas is massive. |

That is the problem, as soon as you see news story about your industry, you see all the holes in the reporting, the half truths and outright lies and it makes you question all other news from that source. |

It looks like Reuters were more inaccurate on this. The BBC did check.
This might explain why they ran with it.
Though l3v1ck has explained why this might not be an issue any more. |
