Police Taser use more than doubles - Home Office

Quote:
Police use of Tasers in England and Wales more than doubled between 2009 and 2011, according to Home Office figures.

The devices were used 7,877 times in 2011, compared with 3,328 in 2009.

In only about a quarter (25.7% in 2011) were they actually discharged. In most situations they were only readied or pointed as a warning.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is probing 12 Taser-related incidents, three involving deaths.

Your chance of being tasered is getting better!

If 2 police offers pull them on one suspect does it count as 2 deployments?

Could be the same number of incidents just more officers carrying them

I'm not sure my definition of 'used' is the same as theirs. They count just drawing them as being 'used'. To me 'used' means somebody had been shocked.

There is a lot that can be hidden by the confusion over definition. I would have thought that used would mean actual firing. Drawing them is another figure. If they only use it 1 in 5 draws then that is better than 1 in 2 draws. Though they might be very easy to draw for effect. It could be that they are drawn on most occasions or very few.
