Good, if only because we've got politicians who have little idea what day to day life can be like.

does this suggest that the current administration have gone just that little bit too far with the whole 'scroungers' line?

If you read some of the comments below it seems not. Bizarrely most fail to appreciate that they are literally only one paycheque from being in the same situation.

Which is why it's always a good idea to save for a rainy day.
I'm glad we did. Our savings supported us for the six months I was unemployed a few years ago. Good job I got a new one though. They wouldn't have lasted much longer.

The problem is that the savings limit for benefits if £6000 is still way above most peoples savings. Unless they are saving for a mortgage they will probably be in debt, and if they have a mortgage they cannot save that much. Also the because of the way benefits are calculated there is a huge problem with working out whether you will be better taking a job, if both are unemployed. They need to make sure that if someone cannot work then they do not become dependent on their partners income for things like housing benefit.
