There should be a cap on the monthly bills. It is akin to racketeering.

I don't know if there should be a cap. There is no cap on roulette, well only the house limit.
The main issue is kids having access to credit, and that's parenting pure and simple.
I sometimes play a game where I know some player spend hundreds of dollars to get rare and powerful items. I grind for the same stuff, and view paying as a bit of a cheat. However, without the paying players the game wouldn't be so awesome.

Got to wonder how this will be enforced. Maybe by excluding the app from sale in the UK?

I heard a bloke on the radio a couple of days ago that had been 'caught' by this. He claimed his four year old son 'figured out his password' because (and I kid you not) 'Kids are clever with this stuff' and racked up a massive credit card bill. Yeah, right. It wasn't that you had no clue of what was going on and just typed it in to shut him up every time he nagged you. That couldn't possibly have happened, could it?

It could be solved by apple and google allowing parental controls to cap in app purchases or blocking them all together.

They do. Or at least Apple do at least. There's 'turn off in app purchasing' button. But these chuckleheads don't turn it on until a credit card bill with three digits before the decimal point turns up.

I have an Apple account and have in app purchases turned off most of the time, though I know I have turned on to get rid of ads. The problem is that I cannot remember putting it back on. For parents that would be lethal financially. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I was looking at Doogle God for Windows 8, the prices are horrendous, "unlimited Mana" is discounted to 99€, down from several hundred!

You'd still have to type your password in (or ID yourself to the fingerprint scanner). If you haven't switched it off and told a four year old your password, you've done exactly the same as handing the kid your wallet and saying "there you go, I'm sure you won't do anything with it I'll regret". The fundamental point is as mentioned - this a failure of parenting, not of technology. I would agree some of the apps are exploitative but isn't it a responsibility of parenthood to make sure kid's naivety isn't exploited?

Yes but most parents are pretty clueless when it comes to technology.

Then I have no issue with a whopping great credit card bill convincing them to get a clue.

Well give under 18's credit card then! Allow them to screw their credit scores rather than their parents. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Completely agree with these statements. I've paid for in-app purchases. Each time, I've had to enter my itunes password which is something only I know. I wouldn't tell anyone and I certainly wouldn't give my iPhone to a kid without hovering over them.

I'm not sure I'd let a kid near a £500 phone at all
