It was bloody obvious what would happen from the start, it had the whiff of a PFI-style scheme/scam even then.

Clearly but politicians are pretty corrupt. They really should have stripped BT of the backbone and put fibre to every cabinet as a policy. Then it would be open to every ISP as to installing their own kit.
