He must be planning on retiring... Does he honestly think the dealers won't start offering 'the good sh1t' to more customers then? Oh, and despite all Ulster's problems and historic smuggling operations, class A is only a big thing in very specific areas. That suggests to me it's more of a social problem than anything else. This notion that dealers and crime gangs will somehow forget about the profits they were making... they'll simply move into something else.
The vast majority of people who do drugs now are probably what you'd label 'functioning', and aren't about to be seen walking into a clinic or something.

its about time someone had thoughts in the right direction if legalised they (users) will have to pay VAT on the drugs and all drug barons will have to find new employment or sign on for JSA ...

He got the first half right. Drug addicts should be treated and not banged up, that doesn't help anybody. Decriminalising dealing or possession wouldn't help.

We could start with cannabis. If we complete decriminalised every aspect including import and selling it would allow people to grow their own. It is the illegality that creates a price premium. Decriminalising will clear the justice system of people who will only become apprentices in crime if they are incarcerated.
