I can see some of the reasons but this looks more like copying Apple than anything else. Are there loads of cloned samsung accessories out there? Also is there such a huge margin on samsung accessories?

There are thousands of 3rd party accessories out there & there's no real margin on genuine accessories.

Though are they specifically Samsung clones rather than being cables that anyone can use. Cases are one thing that can be made specifically for a specific phone. Power cables are all micro USB so what is different between one for Samsung or for HTC?

I will accept that there is barely any margin on generic cables etc.

There's a mix. But putting "for Samsung S4" on a packet means you can charge £10 for a £2 charger as some people will buy it thinking it's been tested for use with those devices.

That is the same for iPhones. Though if they do put "for Samsung S4" then I would expect it to have at least been approved by Samsung as it is their brand that is being harmed if the cable kills someone. It if says generic but usable on various phones including Sony Samsung HTC then that should be different. So if they imply that it is authorised then Samsung should be allowed to kill it off as unauthorised. I do not think it is a good step to copy Apple and chip their cables.
