If I can't jump into it and shout 'Forbidden Planet' without taking a driving test it's all for nothing ;)

It will make driving bans irrelevant and make damage to hire cars a problem for the hire companies rather than the customer. 8-)

But in theory there will be no driving bans as you did not drive - and I bet if its on "auto Pilot" it will not speed etc
Once the technology is mature then I would assume that accidents would decrease and so wouild insurance

I was thinking of the intervening years. Ultimately insurance could be so low that cars will come with seven years free insurance as part of the price. If they can cope with pedestrians and cyclists then we could see an end to road deaths of all kinds.

if the technology was applied to vans you could get anyone to be a delivery driver as no driving skills would be required and so anyone could jump in a van and deliver goods. No more need for an HGV license.

I hope satnav technology improves with it, or there will be a lot of people driving into ditches and streams.
