According to the Telegraph (and other sources)

I can't imagine anybody will have a problem with this, can you?

Surely they deserve it? After all, the economy has never been so buoyant, they've smacked the energy companies into line, drummed out all of the bad practices employed by the press, turned the NHS into the envy of the world, ensured that all our schools are performing well and stopped investment in multi-billion pound white elephants like HS2.

...oh, wait.

I think I might try and stand as a candidate at the next election; it seems like a good gig to be an MP.

I don't think parliament (or in this case whichever comity has decided this, because I know it's not the government directly) has ever heard of a reality check.

It's decided by an independent committee, yes, which Parliament set up after the public make it very clear indeed they didn't think that much of MPs awarding themselves 11% pay rises every year. I suspect I'm not the only one who, even at the time, found it amusing that they thought the process of awarding the pay rise was what the public was getting angry about, rather than the size of it.

They will soon discover the error they have made, I suspect.

Can't help wondering if all this is to draw the sting out so they can get away with the 'real' increase.
