http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25403673 The cynical side of my brain thinks that we’ll not see a reduction in insurance costs - other factors will be magicked into the calculations to ensure they remain at current levels. We’ll see what the report brings in 2014, and who has the stones to enact it. |

It's... interesting. Cracking down on car insurance premiums is a nice little 'feel good' move for a government in the run up to an election. So we might see some action to reduce premiums. But it'd be a bride, not an action with any real purpose behind it. |

They'll just drive the black box insurance policies a bit harder, as a way to 'reduce' our premiums. Corner too fast, or accelerate too hard and it goes against you. So, you have a car, a nice empty, straight bit of road and you accelerate hard up to but not beyond the speed limit and you're penalised. Cars are NOT to be enjoyed! |

"Black box" insurance fits with my harebrained scheme to own a Morris Minor (no tax, cheap to run). Basically, I'd only pay for it if I drove it. I know what driving a Morris is like, and this would fit. However, with the Crossfire, I am unlikely to want a "black box" fitted. I enjoy driving it too much. Ahem. Both cars are actually great to drive, but very different beasts. |
