Well I suppose they could have used harsh language when faced with armed opponents.

Without reading the link, I have to say there were a fair few knobs at my school who could have done with a good tasering.

Devon and Cornwall police deployed stun guns on the boys, all aged 14 or 15, after being called to Chelfham senior school, near Plymouth, after reports of an alleged assault on a teacher on 1 December.

The teacher was treated at the scene by paramedics for chest and head injuries before being taken to Derriford hospital.

Sounds like it was a bit more than a playground scuffle tbf.

Friends boyfriend works at one of these "schools" and he's been seriously assaulted several times from "children" but that doesn't fit into the police are trigger happy theme being inferred. Most of the pupils will have very serious emotional and or learning behaviour problems and reason doesn't always work, to be fair it always never works.

Armed with knives possibly. But that still counts as 'armed'. a 15 year old with a knife is pretty much as dangerous as an adult with a knife. I'd say some sort of safe disarm technique would be the best option under those circumstances but it wouldn't surprise me if they went for a taser instead.

There is I think a continuing argument that giving police tazers represents an escalation of violence in the 'default solution' they go for but at least people tend to still be alive afterwards.

Safe disarm techniques may be an option if your one on one but not when there are multiple attackers unless your Bruce Lee.
Though I do love the fact the guardian is going out of its way to use language to minimise what actually happened to the teacher. Alleged assault.. Er exactly how did the teacher get their injuries, full on body contact paper cuts!

I would assume they have a responsibility not to print anything that could damage any charges certain parties want to press.
They, like any other media outlet, will have to stick to 'alleged' until and unless the people involved have been charged and appeared in front of a judge or magistrate and found guilty regardless of how much evidence there is to point to the guilt of the individuals involved.
