That will create even more problems in future. So what will magistrates do when someone is caught shoplifting for food when they have been turned down for food bank help and have not eaten for days? |

stop local authorities using local council tax payments for all pension funding and payments if they cant be funded by the employers and employee wage/salary payments then the are too expensive stop local authorities saving local council tax payments in overseas funds. savings only to the BoE so they are transparent to the local tax payers that should more then cover any short fall in emergency funding ... |

i know where they get there money from but they are using above and beyond their salary/wage contributions to fund pensions they are using local tax payments to make up any short falls in there pension funds which do not benefit the local areas my local tax pays for wages/salaries/services not providing pension funds with that money to make up any short falls in pension funding ... |

You don't think council workers might live in the area? And that those pensions aren't being spent on goods and services from local firms? It's not as if they're likely to be salting them away in tax havens is it? |

Most pension schemes have the same problem of low returns failing to cover the pensions promised. Most have failed to raise contributions sufficiently and are converting to defined contribution schemes which in effect dumps all shortfalls back on to the tax payer at some point. Which means more and more people will become dependent on means tested benefits when they retire. |
