Decided to post this as we have kicked off the campaign with posters and advertising on the TV screens in the waiting area. The long and short of it is that the Govt, through it's Health & Social Care Act have railroaded plans to gather patient data. The Govt have disguised this as "better information means better care". The idea is that all data held by a GP surgery will be essentially datamined. But unlike the Govt's idea of better care, this won't go to help other healthcare professionals within the NHS. All of your data will be held by the Govt indefinitely and your GP cannot stop this information being uploaded unless you ask to opt-out. None of the information will be anonymised. Hence the Govt will have your data such as all of your diagnoses, referrals, prescriptions, blood tests, as well as demographics such as age, gender, ethnicity etc. The information will be made available to anyone who wishes to pay for it such as drug companies and commercial companies, including those overseas. There is no safeguard to ensure these companies then don't misuse or share the data onwards. For more info: www.care-data.info (website run by a GP) |

Could be interesting the first time someone tests that against UK and EU data privacy regulations. |

Do you opt out directly with your GP or can you do it on the website? |

I wonder which Tory MPs have a financial interest in this through their investments or directorships? |

I got a letter from my GP's surgery some time back. IIRC I needed to tell them directly. You may now be too late... |

Is this England only? I can't find anything that suggests otherwise ![]() I certainly couldn't find an easy opt-out form either way, each practice seems to have their own. |

Our practice has a form. I don't know if there needs to be documented proof. You need to tell your gp so they can add the appropriate code to your computer notes. Please ensure your family and friends are aware. |

That's awesome. Will bring it up at our next practice meeting and see if we can circulate them. |
