I'd do as much as I could if I saw someone drowning or in danger, but otherwise drunks are pretty much on their own as far as I'm concerned, too many can go from 'comatose' to lashing out.

That doesn't excuse these two dickheads mocking the guy, though I wonder were they the ones who went to the police once it was clear he was missing?

If they broke the law then they should suffer the consequences.

1) just because he was wasted doesn't mean he need help. If we followed that rule there'd be thousands of people in town centres on a Friday night required by law to assist drunk people.
2) given how unpredictable drunk people can be, I wouldn't approach someone that wasted either.
I sympathise with the family, but their son has to take responsibility for himself. It's not the passersby fault that he drank that much and couldn't handle it.

When I have been drunk it is very different to the way some people react. We all react differently. Also there are the higher risks of accidents falls etc, but then should the bars be in trouble? Here they are not supposed to serve drunks but there is a big lag between drinking and them looking drunk or even acting drunk.

Or indeed other people buying them rounds so the bar staff don't see them at all.

Pretty sure the 'friends' who knew he was in such a state would be the ones who actually knew in danger he was

I suspect that they were in no better condition themselves.
