Licensing Mario etc would be utter madness and wouldn't put a dent in their financial woes anyway. For a company so willing to take hardware risks, historically and today they treat third party developers and subsequently each other's customers with contempt.

They need a killer console just to start with, and they need to get into the hands of developers as long before release as possible.

And unless they've got hologram tech or something equally mad for their next handheld, they should probably focus on the living room.

I do think that they could also look at their old licenses and consider making versions available for Android and iOS and even Windows Mobile.

There's nothing worth having they haven't already put on their own store, and nothing somebody won't copy either.

Yes but not everyone wants to get a different console or a console which might not be around for much longer if Nintendo are in trouble.

I mean their big names (Mario, Zelda etc) shouldn't appear elsewhere, they're almost the only thing keeping their consoles afloat as it is. Everything else wouldn't be worth the legal hassle alone for what it would bring in.

In which case they need to bring a new console to market. Though they are pretty good at thinking outside the box at new ideas and high def version would be necessary.

If they brought out a new console in two years, there'd still be eight years worth of life cycle in the Xbox one and ps4. Two years worth of higher spec for eight years on the market. Yes people have bought new consoles recently, but them still be plenty of buyers in future years.

I agree. While I was late to the Xbox 360 I will also be late to the XBox One or PS4. So they could still be selling them quite well in a number of years and the games could also be selling well. Nintendo could still have buyers for the games or consoles for a number of years.
