http://www.techradar.com/news/software/ ... a--1216825 It's just ridiculous on a laptop, I personally wouldn't even use it on a touchscreen one. |

No surprise, the patch was so big they've called it Windows 8.1 - Vista's patch was so big they called it Windows 7. At least they gave away free upgrades to Windows 8 owners this time, instead on stiffing them for a new licence. I'm using Windows 8.1, but only because the upgrade was on sale for £25, the rest of the PCs are running Windows 7. It's alright, I'm not filled with hate, but I'd happily have paid that £25 for another copy of WIn7 instead. |

Microsoft are hampered by the fact that they have to support so much legacy hardware, and that many organisations are exceptionally slow at upgrading probably because of the costs. |

Microsoft, just admit it: Windows users don't want Windows 8
http://www.techradar.com/news/software/ ... -8-1218497 8 will potentially be an unnecessary problem with my next laptop ![]() |

The next Vista? Could be, XP drove me away from Windows, Vista brought me back and I find 8 a nice improvement over Windows 7. |

HP never stopped selling Windows 7 PCs, in fact, they are selling fewer models now than they did in the summer, whilst the number of models with 8 has increased... |

Exactly right. I actually like W8 - I just wish the inactive window colour wasn't so crap Sent from my Nokia Lumia 625 using Tapatalk |

Wouldn't that open up security issues? |

Why would it be a security issue? The Mac boots to the desktop as well... They mean the first application that the user will see, once they have logged in, will be the desktop. As long as it remains an option, no problem. |

My thought was aimed at whether it is an admin account. I have set my mums macbook to load to a user account desktop without an password. She would only have user privileges rather than admin privileges. |
