Microsoft are under intense pressure to be seen to be supporting the consumer. The fact that they have backdoors into some of their products does mean that they could find that they start to lose business. Skype could turn out to be worthless if users dump it because of the NSA backdoors. I suspect under those circumstances that they might sue the former owners for fraud. With the PC market stagnant and the scope for expansion limited the last thing that they need is a mass switch away from Windows to Linux. That will destroy their entire business model.

there never will be a mass switch to linux (on the desktop ), even the steamos boxes will see the majority have a dual boot on them, sooner rather than later.
