Yeah, right. It's no secret that the Taliban has ridiculous influence inside Pakistan's security forces. This seems more like grabbing power with both hands.

The problem for Pakistan is that the drone program is making their job harder.

The problem for Pakistan is that their army owns cornflake factories, civilian airlines, banks and nukes. Normally I'm all for diversified portfolios, but that is taking it a bit too far.

Their army is corrupt, very good at stealing, highly skilled in the art of undermining civilian authority and setting its own foreign policy, but not very good at things like fighting. But apparently this is now understood within the government and the army, and there is an intent to fix the problem....

Unfortunately the way to fix such problems is to promote talented officers at the expense of well-connected but incompetent ones. And the way to do that is to send soldiers into battle, and then find out which officers get fewer of their men killed. So it is a kind of victory, if you have a [LIFTED] field commander, if he is captured by the Taliban and beheaded on the internet.

And you though reforming the NHS was a dirty job.
