The figures are absolute bollocks full stop. We have any number of 'bags for life' that never get used or remembered, we still run around looking for plastic bags simply to keep something dry in our crappy weather without it being bulky, and we then buy bin liners to do the job the plastic bags used to do. Meanwhile, they're still fluttering around outside cos the people who throw them away will continue to do so

Quote:
We could reduce greenhouse gas emissions of around 5m-8m tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to permanently taking 1.7m-2.7m cars off the road." But the emissions associated with each bag had mistakenly been vastly exaggerated and Defra had to correct the figures to 32,000-43,000 cars.

That is a huge margin of error.

I have a number of bags for life and I do use them. That said even with bag less online deliveries I still get a few arrive every time, though I use them for rubbish bags or emergency bags when needed. So mine are not single use only. The fact is that unless you taxed them at source with a carbon tax so that supermarkets can decide whether to give them away free or sell them it will still not be resolved. The charge for bags that some supermarkets charge is also ridiculous.

I suspect that many people do the same as you. I do think that many also use the bags for rubbish, so get used again.
