Part of me thinks 'Fcuk 'em all', the amount of patently broken games that get released... On the other hand, it might be a case of use it or lose it where the overall multi-billion dollar industry is heading, and we've fcuked up at that sort of junction too many times in our history.

Sometimes you have to wonder what is going to drive the games industry forwards? New console games are getting incredibly expensive to develop and rely on existing physics engines and marketing to get them started. So what we are left with are dreary franchises.

There's a lot of games coming that'll be/seem 'newer' to console owners (Titanfall, Watchdogs, The Walking Dead releases and games like them, countless ports of more PC/mobile device-specific games), and a lot of current franchises will die on their arse if they don't update drastically (Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, even Batman), and they always get replaced by something.

Many of those new games could be using the same old physics engines of the games that are dying, and might behave very similarly as well. A walking dead game will probably have a lot of shotguns to the head type finishes with lots of splatter effects. Then for variety different weapons like baseball bats or giant pink dildos.

It won't matter though, CoD and FIFA for instance have proved many times over that speed and/or online addictiveness trumps graphics every time. Plus you'll have a whole new generation of players incorporating blokes of all ages, more women, casual gamers of both sexes dipping in...

The Walking Dead game is basically a motion comic where you decide what happens next via a list of options.

Yes I will admit that I have bought the odd franchise because you have less risk in terms of will you like the basic game.
