Don't know what to think about that, but I'd certainly like to see what happens when they try it. I know the police over here are opposed to it.

So how does that work? Selling is legal, buying illegal... So who can they sell to?

On Germany it is heavily regulated. Bordellos are legal establishments and all employees are there out of free will - there are some illegal institutions, but theorise try and clamp down on them. The men and women have to also have regular health checks.

The idea is based around trafficking and, rightly or wrongly, the notion that you're criminalising further a woman (or young girl even) who's actually in a predicament.

Politicians voting to make buying sex illegal. That's something of an own goal for many of them.

"no, I wasn't buying sex, your honour, she was just working for citizenship credits"

Ye gods, it's not called 'the oldest profession' for nothing. I can't imagine you actually being able to enforce this law without turning to extremely draconian techniques which would make even the most law-abiding citizen feel very uncomfortable.

The only effect of such a law would be to make prostitution even less public than it is, which would in fact increase the risk for and danger to the women involved in it, both voluntarily and not. It's stupid counter-productive idea that deserves to be treated with scorn.

I totally agree with that, but this makes the men the criminal. Though how they will get the women to give evidence is another matter. This sounds like a law that Sweden has had for more than a decade. It has not stopped prostitution there.

???
I thought it already was criminal.

EDIT

Misread that. I thought it said MP's rather than MEP's.
