The report by Mark Ellison QC, published on Thursday, found that a police "spy" had been working within the Lawrence camp.

The fact that the under cover officer was an anti terrorist officer does make you wonder what they thought that the Lawrence family were! They should send a lot of police officers to gaol for this. Why they are even undercover in green groups is astounding. While I could understand if they had been going undercover against those that targeted Huntingdon Life Sciences, those protesting power station construction are not terrorists. I wonder how many Home Secretaries knew? If so they should be held accountable as well.

I suspect the first thing any new Home secretary does is to go to the security forces and give them a fairly comprehensive list of the things they might be up to that the HS doesn't want to know about..

I also suspect that Permanent Secretaries might also keep HS out of the loop as it is an administrative role not policy.
