But while some organisations welcomed the scheme, others feared it could leave women more vulnerable. According to Refuge two women are killed by a current or former partner every week, but 77% of domestic violence cases are never reported to police, so if a vulnerable woman seeks information she may be left with a false sense of security, or feeling that her own fears have been undermined.

If you're fearful enough to ask the police in the first instance... :?

It will also be a matter of time before women are added to that list. Nowadays men can be the victim, as women decide to get the first strike in after abusive former partners hit them previously.

Some women are just as violent as some men and anyone who believes otherwise is a fool. Unprovoked violence is not something tied exclusively to the Y chromosome. There is no justification for violence in a relationship, ever. Your example strays rather near to excusing the act.

If there is a law and this service is available, it should be available to anyone. Because anyone, male or female, can be a victim of abuse. That's simple fact.

I was not saying that there is an excuse. This is what the women said when they were questioned about attacking their boyfriends. Violence within a relationship is unacceptable no matter who starts it. I agree with you about who should be informed. A part of the problem is that the police for a long time did not treat domestic violence seriously and so the list will be far too short of those that are a real threat to their potential partners.
