http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26989991 FFS, why not just make one definitive statement? He could have done it months ago. The impression everybody still has is that when the church talks about 'morals' it's like it's comparing the sexual abuse of children to adultery or some other 'sin'. It's taken him this long to call it evil, why then confuse the message, especially after the pathetic 'you're only targeting us!' ![]() |

They have this “infallibility” thing with Popes. They can be as wrong as wrong can be, but because it’s the Pope, it’s not wrong. I would not be surprised if there aren’t a whole load of clerics trying to figure out the correct way to say that the words of previous Popes were so bang out of order that the word “wrong” doesn’t even nearly start to cover it, without infringing this infallibility rule. I imagine that they must be getting through a lot of wine trying to figure that out. |

Amazingly enough, it's called 'The Doctrine of Papal Infallibility'. The essence always seemed to me is that your pope is a direct conduit from God, and therefore everything he says is essentially as if the word of God. And if God is perfect - which is a principle the christian faith kind of goes with - then the word of the Pope must be perfect. As you say, this kind of starts to be an issue when Popes start contradicting each other. But then again, faith is nothing if not willing to bend logic to fit into the world view it wants to have. |
