I remember spending hours mucking about with Neochrome on the Atari ST.

I remember using what Amigas called HAM (Hold And Modify) for more colours on the screen at Uni. I can't remember the advantage, but the graphics software we had used it a lot.

HAM was higher resolution and had 4096 colours, instead of 256, ISTR. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hold-And-Modify not bad, 4096 colour mode, I can still remember some things.

I was just going to post a link to this story. I've got a question COBBLERS! Are you telling me that someone, somewhere couldn't get hold of an original Amiga A1000 and just re-save the images in a more accessible format?

How? There weren't any 'more accessible' formats on the Amiga. That said, there were tools around in the early 90s to convert to BMP I think.

What I found interesting is that they used a process to read the disks that was non-destructive.
