Mentioned this before but in short:

1. Bacteria love to share genetic material. If one bacterium has resistance to penicillin, it can transfer that to other bacteria of different species. This is the bigges cause IMO.
2. Antibiotics are used in agriculture and farming, without prejudice.
3. Antibiotics are widely available over the counter in many countries.
4. Yes, a few doctors prescribe antibiotics unnecessarily, often to get the patient out of the room rather than face an argument. I've been guilty of it too.

People also don’t finish the course, and stockpile the last few for future use.
