A 42 year old song, Stairway to Heaven has had a lawsuit filed agains it for plagerism of the opening notes/riff.
That linked article makes some interesting points as to why someone would wait quite so long to file a complaint, but I would've thought there would be at least some sort of timeframe after which no suit could be lodged.
The article also makes it clear that in these modern times, that's not really the case.
This frustrates me. *sigh*

If true plagrism has happened, of course something should be done and recompense made, but there surely has to be a timeframe when such means can no longer be considered relevant.

There's any number of bands and singers who would be very interested in Oasis and Muse for financial reasons...

I was surprised about the limitation getting reset!

Probably one of the most famous songs around - it's not like it's some obscure little number and the plagiarism has only just been discovered. There must be some kind of statute of limitations in place for this.

Led Zeppelin also has a long history of appropriating material from folk, blues, and rock musicians without crediting their original sources.

Not just Led Zepplin either - this is the root of a lot of music from the time. One thing I am learning from the guitar lessons is that what was done in the 1930s gets repeated in the 50s and again in the 60s. Style, technology, and technique change, but the underlying chord progressions and melodies are strikingly similar.
