I think Rates were 17 - 18% when I bought my house in Southampton. |

same - we bought our house at 15% and then they shot up the next day to 17% when (i thinkl) Norman Lamont tried to defent the £ within the ERM |

It won't help with the fact that thousands of flats across the UK are being bought cash by foreign investors who will never set foot in the country. All it's going to do is price out UK residents even more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Certainly, when I was working at the DHSS in the 1980s and we had to do mortgage calculations, were were processing rates of 15% upwards. Savings were getting a good 10% return. |

Black Monday. I remember I was a student at the time, we kind of weren't paying attention to it but I remember the staff were somewhat distracted that day. |
