I think Rates were 17 - 18% when I bought my house in Southampton.

It won't help with the fact that thousands of flats across the UK are being bought cash by foreign investors who will never set foot in the country. All it's going to do is price out UK residents even more.

Certainly, when I was working at the DHSS in the 1980s and we had to do mortgage calculations, were were processing rates of 15% upwards. Savings were getting a good 10% return.

Black Monday. I remember I was a student at the time, we kind of weren't paying attention to it but I remember the staff were somewhat distracted that day.

Yup. I was a student for Black Monday too which is why I had them confused. Bookended my further education :lol: .
