Quote:
A man who tried to force a train toilet door was left with a broken nose and two black eyes after six women emerged from the cubicle to confront him.

The 54-year-old man was on the Southend Central service at Benfleet in Essex when he was assaulted.

When the door opened six women in mini skirts emerged shouting. One punched and kicked him on to the platform.

He fell on to a second woman on the platform, who responded by punching him, police say.

Why the six women were in the same toilet cubicle is currently unclear, police say.

Hiding from the conductor?

Do they still have them? I haven't been on a train in over a decade (other than steam locos and the like).

Yep. Quite a lot of trains at peak time are so packed with people standing though they can't get down the train to check tickets anyway.

They still have them, but more and more stations have ticket barriers before you get to the platforms as well.

Usually no conductor when stations on line have barriers. They are common on First trains

I commute daily and guess I get checked about 3 - 4 times a month

not been controlled on new commute yet. That's good because this morning was terrible! 15min train ride took 44 min!

Both the Cross Country and Eastmidlands Trains services I've used recently still have them. Though I guess not all stations have barriers yet.
