It is silly season n'all, but that does look like pointless meddling. On a par with 'everyone will have sh1t lightbulbs'. When anyone with half a clue bought LEDs or said fcuk it and flooded their house with halogens.

Next vacuum cleaner I buy will be backpack style. I hate ankle biters and uprights are far too bulky.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Who the fudge buys vacuum cleaners on their efficiency ratings? Agree with more pointless meddling.

How big a house would you need to have that having a hoover that was, what, 400 watts more powerful than another hoover would actually make any appreciable difference to the amount of energy you use over a year? It's a rounding error, surely.

I've got a mini dyson upright. It's a dc24. Had it for about 4 years and it's still going strong.

Especially when you allow for people hoovering an area more than once if their hoover didn't pick up the dirt the first time.

We've got a hoover. I think it is actually a hoover, (as opposed to another brand) but I'm not overly concerned about the environmental impact.

I'd be a lot happier if they banned crappy scare mongering news rags.

We bought a new vacuum cleaner yesterday. We ended up with a Siemens Q5, with 1200W motor. I was fully expecting to buy a high powered device, but ended up with the Siemens. It is quiet and has, allegedly, a very efficient motor. It certainly seems to suit our needs.

Didn't see any point in buying one for the 1600w limit.
I will be buying one before the 900w limit in 2017.

High-powered hairdryers under threat as EU considers ban

http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29004060

It's hard to get a toaster that does what the dial says as it is!

I've no problem with the sentiment, but the EU doesn't think these things through even at the basic level, never mind how it looks to the wider public.
