clicky

Apple have extended the matte display option on customised orders from Apple.com to the 15-inch MacBook Pros. For $50 more, you get a screen less susceptible to glare from light (particularly the sun), with supposedly less vibrant colours, no glass screen, and a silver bezel as opposed to a black bezel.

My dad recently got a new MBP with shiny screen (bah - now he has a better laptop than I do). I’ll ask him how he finds it. He’s very critical of technology if it doesn’t quite work for him. I’ve had to rescue him from himself at times.

I have the 13" MBP, I only find the glossy screen a problem if I have a window/source of light behind me.

I prefer the matte screen to the glossy one.

I can use mine in sunlight which is more than can be said for anyone who chose the glossy option.

As above.

Matt screens are dull and lifeless.

I manage to work with lights and windows in the room and I have a glossy screen. There is this wonderful component on my MacBook called a hinge. Sure, if I angle it correctly then I get glare. But if I use some common sense and angle it differently then bingo - vibrant colours with no glare. ;)

Have to be honest, I like the shiny screen. Sure I can see myself in it sometimes, but it's still perfectly use-able.
