Can't help thinking MS will need to succeed in other fields and markets more than ever soon. There seems to be very little you can add to an OS these days.

Especially given in this case most of what they've put in seems to be the stuff they took out last time...

While I like a start menu it isn't essential. What annoys me about windows 8 is the ways some things behave compared to earlier versions. I don't use any apps on my wife's laptop and use the desktop versions instead. Even then some things just work wrong.

I'm not sure the way they're doing the new/Meto bit of the start menu is going to work well, although it's certainly less of a jolt than being dumped in the '8 Start screen.

Personally, I'd quite like to be able to detach the modern UI start menu and stick it to a side of the screen so I'd have a Win Phone 8 style set of live tiles to quickly check stuff without having to open the start menu but maybe that's just me.

Multiple desktops - users can switch between distinct desktop screens, allowing them to group related work together rather than having to deal with a single screen overloaded with documents and apps.

Yay! About time as well

What?!?

Who wrote that [LIFTED]? So many things are wrong with that sentence.

Confused, OS X does have that feature...

The article doesn't say OS X...

... let alone that the Amiga and Unix had this feature 20 years before OS X did.

Bit of a issue not labelling the Y axis, but it's still useful for comparative terms. Although given it suggests Windows XP sold no copies at all, I'm somewhat sceptical of it's validity.

It's not; it's simply the version number expressed as a value...
