http://news.sky.com/story/1345364/tesco ... -the-floor That'll do a lot... The problems I've noticed are that prices go up and down like a yo-yo but the basics remain increasingly expensive, stock is woeful, and they insist on the smaller stores that are useless even to single people sometimes, so once you've gone elsewhere you're hardly likely to return. And of course much of that affects their online orders too. They deserve to go down the pan, frankly. |

Sounds like Undercover Boss on a grand scale. It is also not a bad idea, many in head office either know nothing about the shop floor or they have been out of it so long, that their knowledge is rusty. |

I have always been in favour of this - more companies should do it (and I am someone who if my Co did it would have to go and meet Joe Public) |

I kind of agree with this - but I think it should be a more permanent part of the experience of working in retail. management have to know what’s going on on the ship floor, and the best way to do this is to put them there for a period of time every year. |

the trouble with most large retailers including tesco is that a vast majority of new staff are employed part time on enforced flex contracts their hours can be increased to a 8/9 hour day, to a max of 36.5 hours in any week, at an hours notice bit hard to plan for the second job that most have to have to make a living also if most are part time not full time not many are going to put much effort into doing the job over 15 years at tesco, most of them years as a union rep, gives me an insight that many don’t get to see ... |

to be fair, Tesco shops are often untidy, quality of products can vary massively, (great steak and fishcakes to terrible fruit and veg) some of the corner shops feel like they are franchises and are rather grotty, not helping the brand. |

Tesco's in Derby sucks, because it's an old store (1980's ish I'm guessing) that's quite small and very dated in it's style. |

It's not really the buildings that are problem. The problem is somewhere along the line their stock and quality control have both gone utterly to pot. There's no value to a supermarket that only has half the things you need at any given time and where the fresh produce is either about to go off or has been refrigerated for what looks like weeks, which a lot of their fresh stuff appears to me. It happened to Sainsbury's a few years ago, it's happening to Tesco now. If they don't turn it round, Aldi and Lidl will completely eat their market. |

To be fair, fish counter at morrisons is great. Btw the foreign cheese section at tesco is impressive. Lots of obscure ones! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Morrison’s is the closest shop to us, so it makes sense to go there. A trip to Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Asda is a drive across town. |

The recently redid the big Tesco Extra on the outskirts of Peterborough. It looks really nice until you actually try to use the damn thing. They've clearly tried to emulate the Morrisons Market Street idea and have expanded lots of the island deli type bits, which is good. But in doing so they actually significantly reduced the shops capacity and to make matters worse are also clearly trying to be a department store at the same time - do one or other but in try for both they are failing at both IMHO. They spent months redoing things and generally seem to have made the place worse - good job Tesco. It was also telling that they used to have recycling facilities for low energy bulbs, water filters and the like. This disapeared during the refit. I asked at the help desk when it was coming back and they said at the end of the refit, which was 3 months ago so no idea ![]() |
