Planes don't explode as soon as the pilot ejects... The comment is nonsensical, of course it carried on for a short time, before it hit the ground. If he had waited to hit the ground before ejecting, he would be dead. :roll:

There is a minimum safe height to eject and the pilot usually tries to line the plane up to hit an uninhabited area, then he ejects while he still has time.
