I wonder just how badly it's alleged to have been mishandled. To the point that he's wrongly accused and imprisoned? Or enough that a guilty man gets to say he didn't do it?

I'd imagine he's been so drunk he could barely stand at some point - or at least his colleagues. There's a distinct element of putting words in his mouth though.
