I imagine a lot of people just use their browser bar to jump to where they've been before, so presumably some bit of software or tracking cookie needs to be in play here. Either way, you might as well have the ads if what you're getting is something pixellated instead

And logging into Google just to see YouTube content was a pain in the ass...
