It is quite common in high sped accidents, where the impact is not head on. Going sideways off the road and into a tree can do that. I suspect very high speed was involved. |

Looking at the uprated exhaust, I think you're probably right. Who knows what state the rest of the car was in, or what other mods he'd done. |

I'm guessing they'll be looking for brake marks to check speed. If the driver even broke at all :S |

Mythbusters covered this. Although it was head on with a snow plough. Either way the engine block held the car together. In this case though with it being side contact I can see that happening fairly easily. Front wheel drive too. So the only thing going front to back was the exhaust. I imagine the chassis was rusted to bits. |
