More handwringing over Top Gear’s Argentina Special.

Quote:
The Argentinian ambassador has accelerated her argument with the BBC over a controversial Top Gear special filmed in the country.

Alicia Castro, the country’s ambassador to the UK, has written to BBC Trust chairman Rona Fairhead expressing her “discontent” after a meeting with the corporation’s director of television Danny Cohen.

The motoring show’s crew fled Argentina after trouble erupted when it emerged they were using a Porsche with the registration number H982 FKL, which some people suggested could refer to the Falklands conflict of 1982.

The phrase “some people suggested” sounds very woolly to me. It’s not connection I would have made without prompting from some of the easily agitated media. Unless that H was a more vertical letter form, such as an I (which you can”t use) or even a J or a L (with a bit of a push), I don’t see it. Some people would have made the H LOOK more like II (two capital Is) by putting a white screw cap on the bar, but then you’d get something that looks almost, but almost entirely unlike 11982

I can't imagine she really expects anybody to do anything, frankly. You don't get to be an ambassador if you're that politically naive.
