Not the best gloves for handling a gun at least, but undercover officers should only be used where absolutely necessary.

What a rubbish story - if you look at the photo, the cops trigger finger is clearly on the barrel of the gun which is the correct procedure to make sure it doesn't accidentally go off.

I agree, there seems to be a bit of work going on to justify the headline. Mind you, it's still a much more honest story than what you normally get around such matters!

While the headline was sensationalist, the strategy from the police force was poor. Sending plain clothes police into a crowd demonstrating against police conduct was always going to put those officers in serious danger should they get discovered, and allowing them to go in armed was always going to make that situation worse if it happened, because the temptation to pull a gun if you're in that kind of situation is overwhelming.

Let's be frank here, just a photo of a plain clothes police officer pointing a gun at someone was about the best possible outcome that was likely going to happen. The fact nobody got hospitalised or killed - either the cops, protester or an innocent bystander - is a matter of pure luck.

You don't send people with guns into a volatile situation. That's just idiotically stupid. I don't blame the guy in the photo, I blame whatever idiot sent him in in the first place.
