it's kind of terrible that a "blip" can be more than the average wage in the UK.
Saying that, apparently, average wage in London is ~55k :shock:

It may very well be, but that would presumably include a large number of investment bankers salaries/bonuses as well as varrious CEO's and I suspect they might be skewing the numbers slightly.
The median London wage in 2013 was ~£34k according to ONS which sounds a bit more realistic.
