If the parties had any wit they'd have included it in the first instance and promoted it as social cohesion to help their tarnished images. They'd already pissed off the right wing/traditionalists anyway.

I've always said it's better to call all legally-recognised "marriages" as civil partnerships, and leave the term "marriage" to religious connotations. It will largely die out and become meaningless to the majority of the population.

In the same way that Thatcher's government introduced a community charge, and because that was the official name for it, nobody called it poll tax?
