People deserve a living wage to start with... And isn't it fortunate that the books add up come election time? These are the same people who wanted a heated food tax ffs.

That's nice, except the people who have made the most sacrifices (the poor with children, the disabled, carers etc) aren't getting their taxes cut are they? They mostly pay tax through VAT, which you put up!

God it's so depressing. We've got 100 days of this to come you know.

It'll be interesting to see where the tax cuts go. Obviously raising the threshold for the lowest rate of income tax would be one place. Though I expect some will call for alterations in stamp duty, but that won't help the most needy. There's also issues with the current limits on inheritance tax. It getting to the point were people who've worked hard all their lives and own a house in London are getting clobbered for 40% when they die. That's just grave robbing.
I wouldn't ever expect a drop in VAT (it would cost them too much) and fuel duty is a political 'no no' given how much influence ecomentalists have these days

To put it simply giving tax cuts to the majority can't happen because the cost goes up with scale (obviously) so tax cuts are always going to be targeted at 'a' minority of some sort or another. I personally can take a very good guess as to which minority a Tory cabinet whose political campaigns are almost entirely funded by the super-wealthy are going to go for.

If I was in charge I would:-

1) Scrap HS2 - save billions on that - what is it for? Might save a few mins but not worth it
2) Slash overseas aid to only the countries who actually need it
3) Not bother upgrading Trident

Agreed, although I believe Trident is more of an overhaul than an upgrade - the choice is pretty much spend the money or trash it. I'm perfectly happy with the latter, frankly.

The only tax I wish they would scrap is APD - airport passenger duty - a nasty tax that taxes people trying to go abroad on holiday to get some sunshine.

We’re getting the “smear” “posters” already. Noting that the Tories seem to be more interested in painting a caricature of Ed Miliband than anything else. Granted, he’s handing over that ammunition to them by the wheelbarrow load, but I reminded of the Tories Tony Blair demon eyes posters, and that worked well for them.

I say “posters” - I’ve not seen any of them actually stuck anywhere other than on their Twitter feeds.

Well I would
1) Extend HS2 to cover the major routes around the whole country
2) Agree
3) If not upgraded would then plough all of the saving into the regular armed forces
